HISTORY

1970

In the 1970s, Ascanio Lapis and Alma Matassini arrived at the small hamlet of Poggio San Polo (527m A.S.L.) in Gaiole in Chianti. They weren't looking to build a winery. Rather, they wanted a place to build a life with their nine children and tend to the surrounding vineyards and olive groves.

2005

In 2005, the first Poggio San Polo bottles were crafted and released by some of Ascanio and Alma's children. The bottles were shared first with family, friends, and then a small circle of people who appreciated the place and its wines.

2016

A new vision was on the horizon. Guided by Lorenzo Lapis, Ascanio and Alma's grandson, the future of Poggio San Polo began taking shape and would be rooted in respect for the land and the courage to think beyond.
